Eyelash Extensions 101

I am beyond pumped to introduce you to my all time favorite beauty treatment: EYELASH EXTENSIONS! Literally, they will change your life. I’m not trying to sound dramatic, but waking up with fluffy eyelashes is just the best thing in the world. Here’s everything you need to know about getting your eyelashes just as on fleek as your brows!

Where to Go:

I go to Mehae Kim at Damone Roberts Beverly Hills Salon (see below for their clients). They are the best! Beyonce literally goes here – and that was all the convincing I needed!

Not from LA? Just make sure you find a licensed eyelash aesthetician.

 Appointment Time:

Basically, you show up, and they will take you to a little bed that looks similar to a doctors office (if a doctors office had crystal chandeliers and complimentary champagne).

You lay down, close your eyes, and they place some white papery stuff on your cheeks and get started! (see below)

What They are Actually Doing:

It takes a long time because they are individually attaching each eyelash onto your own eyelashes. One by one. BY HAND. Which makes it look extremely natural and why it takes awhile to complete the masterpiece.

The whole appointment takes about 90 minutes. So get there, use the restroom FIRST, and prepare to take a little cat nap while the aesthetician works her magic.

What it Feels Like:

The best way I can describe it is that it kind of feels like someone is brushing your eyelashes with a comb – which I suppose they are. Don’t worry though – it doesn’t hurt even in the slightest! In fact, you barely feel anything at all.

Safety?

People always ask me if it’s safe – and the answer is, absolutely! Special glue attaches each eyelash to the base of your natural lash. I’ve been getting them forever, and my natural eyelashes are 100% a-ok

Tips to Make them Last:

They will last about a month if you take good care of them – so here are some tips to get the most bang for your buck.

  • Don’t wear false eyelashes on top of them. The glue will pull off the extensions – and your natural eyelash! So stick to only the extensions.
  • Don’t get them wet for 24 hours post-application.
  • Don’t rub your eyes a lot. Basically, they are just like a natural eyelash – so don’t do anything that would make your natural eyelash fall out and you will be good to go.
  • No mascara needed – so don’t put it on!

In summary, if I had zero dollars to my name and was about to be evicted out of my apartment onto the street, I would still get eyelash extensions. That’s how much I love them.

After all, few things beat being able to control the world with the flutter of an eyelash! ;)
