You Need to Fail

"I think it's important you have a good failure when you're young." - Walt Disney

Have you experienced failure recently? Have you been fired from a coveted position? Have you felt embarrassed or insecure or overwhelmed? Have you felt lost or confused or worrisome? Failure is okay. In fact, failure is wonderful. Take Walt Disney for example: he was fired from a newspaper because he "lacked imagination and had no good ideas." Without failures, have we really given life our everything? Or have we taken the safe route and never left our comfort zone?

"I recommend you all get fired." - Anna Wintour of Vogue once told a group of design students

Jesus is God. He's rather phenomenal at being God, might I add, and He will never let us fall too far. As long as our eyes are on Him, our steps will be guided and our failures will be swept clean. God alone can turn a mess into a message! Sweetheart - we are safe. We are tremendously loved. We have a Safety Net. Failure will happen, but God will always pick us back up. With a God like ours, why even worry about failing? This life is as short as a passing wind and (our mansion in) Heaven awaits.

Here's some encouragement:

  • Michael Jordan was cut from his highschool basketball team, locked himself in his room, and cried.
  • The Beatles were told they had "no future in showbiz."
  • Albert Einstein didn't say a word until he was 4 and did poorly in his classes in school.
  • Out of college, Mark Cuban lost his job at a computer store.
  • It took Edison 10,000 tries to perfect the lightbulb.
  • A young Elvis was told he was better off driving trucks than performing.
  • In her early twenties, Madonna was fired from Dunkin' Donuts.
  • At age 27, Vincent Van Gogh finally decided to go to art school.
  • At age 30, Harrison Ford was a carpenter.
  • At age 30, Martha Stewart was a stockbroker.
  • Vera Wang designed her first dress at age 40.
  • Morgan Freeman finally landed his first major movie role at age 52.

God hears our prayers and dreams and thoughts. We are never stuck. Holding His hand, we can't even dream where He might take us!
