If You're Waiting, God Is Preparing You

It’s no secret, being humans, that we were born impatient. We want what we want, and we want it now. We hate lines, we hate waiting for packages to arrive in the mail after a day of exciting online shopping, and we hate waiting for the clock to hit 5 o’clock to go home after a long day of work. Whether we hide it well it or not, we all know waiting is hard.

You may be waiting on a job, a house, a car, moving out and finally being on your own, finding that perfect relationship you’ve been longing for... whatever it is, the wait is worth it in the end - we just have to learn to be patient.

Jesus knows what we need and He IS taking care of us, even if we feel alone - even if we feel like it’s not fair or like we’ve been waiting too long. Trusting in Him is what will get us through every season of waiting.

I read this quote by Joyce Meyer the other day and absolutely fell in love with the truth behind it, “I believe a trusting attitude and a patient attitude go hand in hand. You see, when you let go and learn to trust God, it releases joy in your life. And when you trust God, you’re able to be more patient. Patience is not just about waiting for something... it’s about how you wait, or your attitude while waiting.”

In the end, we decide how we feel. We decide whether we are going to make each and every situation positive. The day is what we make it, the wait is what WE MAKE IT.

Of course, that’s easier said than done. Along with waiting comes comparison. You’re waiting for your special moment all the while everyone around you seems to have it all. They have what you want, what you think you need, what you believe you deserve. But I’m here to tell you, they waited too. Nothing is just handed to anyone, but all of our lives are going to be different. They are all going to pan out in different ways and it isn’t fair to ourselves to look at everyone else’s lives around us and wonder why our situation looks different. That isn’t fair to you, and it isn’t fair to question the perfectly PERFECT plan that God has for YOUR life.

In Matthew 7:7, Jesus says, “Ask and it will be given to you." But He does not say “Ask and it will be given to you in that instant.”

We must learn to pray and seek His will for our lives each and every day. Maybe the purpose He has for you at this point in your life is to wait for something bigger. Then down the road, later on in life, you can teach someone else the things you’ve learned in your season of waiting.

You are exactly where you’re meant to be. If you’re waiting, God is preparing. If you’re waiting, God is saving you for something so special. If you’re waiting, God is there - He will NEVER leave you alone. And remember, if you’re waiting, you won’t be waiting long. Listen to me when I say this: your life is not meant to be exactly like everyone else’s life around you. You aren’t supposed to be able to pick and choose everything you think is right for you. If we were able to do that our lives would be chaos. That’s why we have our great God to be there to intervene and show us things so so so much better than anything we could ever imagine. We may want right now, but that doesn’t mean we need in that instant.

God knows your need, He’s just waiting on the perfect time to give it to you. We have to let go of the life we’ve always planned for ourselves and prepare for the one God intended for us. The life He has planned for us. And oh boy, will that life be far greater than anything we could have ever imagined or planned for ourselves. This season of waiting is here for a purpose. Whether that’s to teach you something or help you grow. Our God has seen our tomorrows. He knows what our futures hold. He has us in the palms of His hands. If He knows what my future is going to bring me, I’ll wait for whatever it is He has for me.

There’s a quote by Ben Patterson that says, “The work that God does within us while we wait, is just as important as whatever it is that we are waiting for.”

He is working on you and who you are in your season of waiting. He is shaping you and molding you into who you need to be before He can bring that special thing into your life. Right now you may not be ready, but He will know when you are. In this season He is showing you what you are capable of. He’s teaching you all about you. Because He knows YOU. He knows what you need and when you need it. And I’d say that’s a pretty good reason to wait for whatever it is we are longing for.

Whatever we are waiting for will surely come to us if we ask for it, but only when He knows we are ready to receive it with an open and grateful heart.

Know that every waiting season has a purpose. Lean on God and grow in your faith in this period of waiting. Pray every day. Talk to God about what it is your heart is yearning for.

I’m praying for you today. And I’m waiting too.
