Keeping Faith Exciting

I was recently watching a video in my church house group about a woman struggling with her marriage. One of the most notable things she shared was how she had gotten “bored with God."

It struck me because I was shocked by the idea that anyone could be bored with God! This is the same God that created the universe, sent his son down from Heaven and sent a shockwave through the world with the resurrection. Who could be bored with that?! Yet, faith is not really exciting for people anymore. And, frankly, I can see why.

The “faith” we see in society is not something I’d be all that interested in. (Isn’t that a terrible thing to think?)

“Faith” seems to be exclusive rather than inclusive; abrasive rather than welcoming; undesirable rather than life changing. In many ways, faith is no longer exciting to people because they no longer understand what it is about. I bet you have felt disillusioned as a Christian from time to time, as I know I have.

If you want to keep your faith exciting, you need to stay true to what the Gospel says. When you become entrenched in the Word, there is nothing that will stop it from deeply impacting your life!

Here are some practical ways to keep your faith stimulating, dear:

• Make time to read the Bible. The Bible is one of the greatest stories in the world and, best yet, it is pure TRUTH! I get excited every time I hear God speak into my heart through the Bible.

If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. – John 15:7

• Get involved in church ministries. I find God pouring truth into my life through other people quite often. It is one of the ways I find the greatest opportunity to stay on fire for God.

For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them. – Matthew 18:20

• Turn it over to God through prayer. If you are feeling complacent or “lukewarm” in your faith, you are not alone. And God has not left you. He is standing there waiting for you to turn back to Him. The best way to do that is to spend time in prayer. The prayer does not need to be revolutionary, it just needs to be honest. The prayer I say when I am needing to reconnect is simple: “God, open my heart back up to you. I desire to be close to you and have your spirit within me. It is my prayer that you may use me to bring you glory.” Make your prayer whatever you need it to be. God knows your heart. You are worthy of speaking to Him!

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. – Mark 11:24
