As evidenced in our first interview with her, Erin Weideman is one of our favorite role models at M+H. In addition to being a beautiful woman of faith, she’s also the co-founder of Truth Becomes Her, the creator and author of the bestselling The Adventures of Rooney Cruz series for girls, a nationally-recognized speaker, radio personality, certified teacher and sought-after homeschool consultant, and host of the Heroes for Her Podcast.

Her newest book, Ringleaders, officially launches TODAY, in which you can take your children on an unforgettable adventure to meet six extraordinary women from the New Testament and discover the good news of the gospel. Is that lovely or what?!

Meet a superwoman for Jesus – Erin Weideman!

Catch us up! How’s life right now?

Life is busy! I'm working from home, doing the homeschool thing with my daughter Rooney, who’s in first grade, and we just welcomed a new baby, Roxy, who’s now nine weeks old—so life is crazy in the best way.

We also just moved from San Diego to Montana. We had planned to come to Montana just for the month of June because of COVID but then thought, “Oh, we kind of love it here. Let's just move here!” We ended up moving right before I had the baby, but the timing just felt like the Lord was calling us to a new adventure and it's been so great.

What prepared you to take that leap of faith?

It wasn't until I was faced with my first cancer diagnosis in my twenties that I realized there might actually be a God out there Who loves me and Who has a plan for my life. Once I started seeking Him and asking those questions, I saw how faithful God is to illuminate the path He wants us to walk down. Sometimes it's just a step at a time, but He is so faithful to confirm those steps. We just have to seek Him, ask Him those questions, and be able to discern His voice so we can take a step in the right direction and receive His confirmation along the way. My life is definitely a testament to His faithfulness and to the fact that life with Him is a risk-taking glorious adventure.

Advice for the woman just starting her career and looking for her niche?

When I was 22 and newly-graduated, I laid down all of my gifts and talents, my passions and the unique things about me, in the pursuit of making money. I was working in finance at the time, at a job completely ill-suited for my giftings and what God has called me to do, and it took a blessing like cancer for me to be pulled off that path. I started asking questions like, God, what are my gifts? Who are my gifts for? What are the talents You put inside me? God's given each of us unique personalities and experiences that no one else has. He wants these things used for His glory, but  He also wants to partner creatively with His sons and daughters to share more about Him with the world and to invite people into a deeper relationship with Him. So I would tell the woman just starting out to be tuned in to how God wired her, the things that light her up, the gifts and talents she has, and the resources He's given her.

Tell us about your latest project!

The next adventure in Bible Belles and The Adventures of Rooney Cruz is called Ringleaders, and it highlights six women of the New Testament and the Gospel message. The first book series helped girls understand the importance of things like character and confidence, and the challenges of being a leader for God's kingdom. In this book, our main character is a little bit more grown up and mature. While facing serious challenges, she realizes God's equipped her with some foundational truths and some super powers, and learns what it means to live an abundant life.

Your work focuses on teaching women their true identity and worth. Why is this so important to you?

I grew up in a check-the-box church situation where I was very good at going to Sunday school, memorizing Bible stories, and singing all the songs. I was doing all the things, but missing a relationship with Jesus. I was plagued by feelings of insecurity and comparison, and constantly trying to measure up to the world's definition of beauty. When we do that as girls and women, we miss God's ultimate purpose for our life. So this passion was really born out of my own insecurities, and not understanding my God-given identity.

What else is inspiring you these days?

Reconnecting in person with friends (not that we don't all love Zoom). To sit across from a girlfriend face to face, to have coffee with her, hold her hand, pray with her, look into her eyes… I’ve missed that in this season, and I'm so thankful for these experiences as we continue to be in this weird season.
